“First Solar is scheduled to begin construction on AV Solar Ranch One, the world’s biggest solar photovoltaic project, on July 5 in Antelope Valley. But Development Director Jack Pigott has just begun facing off with residents of Fairmont, the nearby community.
Fairmont’s people are adamant about on-the-ground issues, like fences that will surround the 230-megawatt installation, the effect of fenced-off desert on hiking, horseback riding and other recreation, the impact of dust coming off the cleared and leveled land, and of wildlife displaced to their yards in the process.
They are even more concerned with how much water Solar Ranch One will require, who will administer desert lands purchased by First Solar to mitigate the project’s impacts, who will get the jobs at Solar Ranch One, and what public benefits First Solar will offer Fairmont in return for permanently altering the community.

A California witness had a second encounter with a triangle-shaped UFO over Antelope Valley after observing a low-flying and silent object move overhead on April 12, 2011, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness also recounts an incident four years ago in the same area where a triangle object was observed “just a few yards off of the 14 freeway, maybe 100 to 150 feet in the air.”

On the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy, remember and reflect with these powerful quotes.
“Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.”.President Obama in a 2011 radio address
“One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.”President George W. Bush at the Pentagon in 2008
“With almost no time to decide, [your loved ones] gave the entire country an incalculable gift. They saved the Capitol from attack. They saved God knows how many lives. They saved the terrorists from claiming the symbolic victory of smashing the center of American government. … They allowed us to survive as a country that could fight terror and still maintain liberty and still welcome people from all over the world from every religion and race and culture as long as they shared our values, because ordinary people given no time at all to decide did the right thing.”President Bill Clinton in Shanksville, Pa., in 2011Continue Reading →
LANCASTER — About 20 Lancaster Community Hospital workers, frustrated over stalled contract talks, built a “Berlin Wall” of cardboard boxes and picketed outside the institution Thursday afternoon.
The demonstration was the second in three months by representatives of the Hospital & Service Employees International Union. The group has alleged that the 132-bed hospital is sending profits back to its German-owned parent corporation while refusing to increase wages for local employees.
“We’re building the ‘Berlin Wall’ to represent the oppression and repression we’re forced to work under here,” said Jay Corcoran, an operating room technician and member of the negotiating committee.
But hospital officials said the wall was merely a publicity stunt aimed at harassing and embarrassing the firm that owns the hospital. Steven Schmidt, chief executive officer at the hospital, said the contract talks are stalled because the union insists that the hospital require all eligible employees to join. (via Los Angeles Times)
